We caught up with our newest team member, Jordan Davies, who recently joined the business as a Project Quantity Surveyor. Jordan has over 8 years’ experience working in the construction industry and is currently in the process, as of 2024, of completing his Quantity Surveying Degree at Salford University.
We sat down with him to discuss what attracted him to the role, what he’s doing day to day, what he would do if he won the lottery, any his hidden talents and more.
Hi Jordan, welcome to the team. It’s great to have you on board.
Hello! It’s great to be a part of the team, I’m looking forward to getting started.
Can you tell us a little bit about your new role at Urbanise Construction?
Certainly, I’ll be working as a Project Quantity Surveyor. Primarily, my role focuses on estimating and managing costs, ensuring projects are completed within budget and on time for our clients.
I also play a part in the procurement process, which includes sourcing and purchasing materials and services required for construction. Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors, managing contracts, that sort of thing.
What attracted you to the role?
The impressive team of construction experts and diverse portfolio is what stood out to me. I was also drawn to the variety of services we offer, spanning from refurbishments to fit outs, residential and more.
I see Urbanise as an agile business which appealed to me in terms of my rate of learning and experience. I won’t be a small cog in a big wheel which is important to me as I learn from being hands on and involved. I wanted to be a part of that setup.
What made you decide to become a Quantity Surveyor?
I have always taken a keen interest in construction, which led me to pursue a Level 3 Extended Construction Contracting & Operations diploma at Stockport College—which I loved. This ignited my passion for a career in construction, prompting me to pursue the career and now complete my degree in Quantity Surveying at The University of Salford.
My formative construction education at Stockport College allowed me to land a Trainee Quantity Surveyor role at FK Group. From there I advanced to become a Quantity Surveyor and stayed for 7 years. Now, to further my career I’ve joined Urbanise Construction and I’m raring to go.
Where do see yourself in 5 years?
Being a key member of the Urbanise team, with a degree under my belt. Learning from Dave Inglis (Commercial Lead) as part of his team and gaining invaluable real-world experience. Self-betterment, learning and becoming familiar with the intricacies of the role are a key focus, so the sky’s the limit.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I’m a huge football fan and love to stay active. You’ll often find me at the gym or on the badminton court. But when I’m not playing sports, I enjoy winding down by playing chess or gaming with my friends.
What’s a fun fact about you that many people may not know?
I love Star Wars! Possibly one of the greatest franchises ever made, I’ve watched the films too many times to count.
If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you would do?
Retire early so I can spend precious time with my son. But don’t worry Urbanise, it’s a long shot!
Do you have any hidden talents?
If you happen to go to a quiz night, I’m your guy. I know a lot of random facts about all sorts of topics, so a heads up to my colleagues…if there’s a quiz night on the horizon, you’ll want me on your team.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
I would say I’m hardworking, cheerful and ambitious.
Welcome to the team Jordan. It’s great to have you on board.
