Project overview

Urbanise Construction was engaged by Placefirst to deliver the final phase of the Welsh Streets regeneration project in Liverpool. Officially known as Welsh Streets Phase Six, the High Park Street development marked the conclusion of a major urban renewal effort. We built a mix of new homes, apartments, and a community hub, providing high-quality, affordable housing for young professionals and families.

The challenge

The development site presented several logistical and environmental challenges. With residential properties at the rear and roads on three sides, we had limited space for construction storage and workforce accommodation. We meticulously planned deliveries and equipment storage, ensuring crane lifts were timed with precision to avoid disruptions.

Unforeseen heavy rainfall during the winter months slowed progress and increased costs, particularly affecting the brickwork stage. Additionally, the robust detailing required for the development added complexity to the build, demanding specialist subcontractors to complete the work on time and within budget.

The solution

We constructed five new-build homes, seven apartments, and a community hub, using piled foundations, beam-and-block flooring, structural brickwork, and precast floors to ensure long-lasting quality. Our team installed timber roof trusses, solar panels, and modern energy-efficient features to enhance sustainability.

Inside, we fitted LVT flooring, white gloss kitchens, quality carpets, and stylish bathrooms, creating a high-spec living environment. To improve soundproofing, we incorporated additional ceiling layers in the apartments and homes, ensuring a more comfortable and private living experience.

Architectural design

Mbed Architects, a Liverpool-based practice, designed the High Park Street development, blending traditional and modern elements. The detailed brickwork, faux stone sills, window surrounds, and feature bands made this development stand out. Our skilled team ensured that each architectural detail, from the distinctive brickwork to the complex roof design, was executed with precision and quality.

Social impact

As part of the build-to-rent market, this development provides affordable housing for young professionals and families, including essential workers such as doctors and nurses. Despite delays and cost challenges, we delivered a high-quality product, reinforcing our reputation for excellence.

Awards and recognition

Our work on the High Park Street development earned a nomination for Small House Builder of the Year at the North West Residential Property Awards, showcasing the high standards of construction, design, and quality we achieved throughout the project.

The project also gained notable attention when the Prince of Wales visited and shared a picture in front of the iconic Paul Curtis Artwork Welsh Streets mural, further cementing the cultural significance of the development.
