One Express

Following the work we delivered at Two Express, we were invited to refurbish the prestigious Grade II* listed One Express building, an Art Deco gem of Manchester. Due to the building being empty for a sustained period, the key motivation for the project was to drive tenancy through design and innovation.

Tried and tested partnerships

Due to our previous successful collaboration on One Express, we again worked with architects stephenson hamilton risley STUDIO to make their vision a reality. We started by stripping out the building and structurally altering the interior by removing the lightwells and extending the floor plates. Central to lead architect John Boardman’s design was a new feature staircase spanning three floors and bringing back the building’s grandeur from when it was the Daily Express Building.

In addition to the main office space, we also fitted out One XPS Fitness and Off The Press, a public gym and café on the basement and ground floors respectively. As with Two Express, we worked with OBI and in4m Property Consultants to deliver the project.

From the ground up

As a result of the success of the project, we were invited back to fit out the first and second floors in the same style as the rest of the building. In line with the client’s original objectives, One Express is now fully tenanted and constitutes a statement piece of architecture and interior design in Manchester.

“We are working together on the prestigious Grade ll* listed One Express Building. We are looking forward to delivering to our mutual client a building of the highest design and workmanship quality. We would have no reservations in recommending Urbanise to other clients and projects.”
