This week we were thrilled to be able present the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity with a cheque for just over £3,000. Rob Muldoon from the charity met with Matt Kimber, our Ops Director, to receive the cheque and expressed his thanks to the team, stating “Donations like this from Urbanise Construction are massive for us. They are our lifeline and keep us going. The work we do and the help we provide to the construction industry and their families costs a lot of money, so without this kind of fundraising, we simply wouldn’t be able to do it and ultimately lives would be at risk”.
The money was raised via sponsorship after several members of the Urbanise team took on the challenge to walk the width of Britain along Hadrian’s Wall to raise awareness and much needed funds for the charity.
Where does the much-needed funds go?
Lighthouse is a charity dedicated to providing financial, physical and emotional support to those within the construction industry who are facing crisis situations. From mental health challenges to financial difficulties, the charity works tirelessly to ensure that construction workers and their families receive the assistance they need during challenging times. Their work is needed now more than ever, with their 2022 Impact Report showing a 23% increase in demand for their services. Last year with the support of funding and donations they delivered a staggering £3,322,739 worth of charitable services to the construction community, including helpline support, financial support such as food shops and assisting with increased mortgage payments, therapeutic support, training and much more. Our donation will go towards helping the charity continue to expand its reach and impact, providing more support to individuals and families facing hardships within the industry.
Our commitment to mental health and wellbeing
The Hadrian’s wall challenge, whilst physically tough, was a huge success. As well as being a great way to raise money for the charity, it was also an opportunity to get the Urbanise team together away from site and office bringing our team closer together in the great outdoors. The walk reinforced our commitment to supporting wellbeing, and the amazing work that Lighthouse does each day, Matt commented “We’re delighted to be able to fundraise for Lighthouse. I feel it’s our responsibility to support the work they do which is truly humbling. The more awareness we can give mental health and wellbeing in our industry the better as we break down walls and create new norms.”
We believe that corporate social responsibility in the construction sector involves not only ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality in projects, but also actively contributing to the wellbeing of our employees and the welfare of the broader communities in which we operate. By continuing to support organisations like Lighthouse, we can create a more positive work culture, attract great talent, and contribute to shaping a healthier, more compassionate and sustainable industry.
